Evening Of Music - Wednesday July 2, 2008 9:00 pmThe Cleveland Orchestra's annual free Public Square concert "A Star Spangled Spectacular" takes place on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 9:00 pm. A pre-concert festival of musical entertainment begins at 4:00 pm on Public Square. The concert led by guest conductor Giancarlo Guerrero will also feature soprano Indra Thomas. The program will be hosted by WCPN's Dee Perry. The concert will include a tribute to Leroy Anderson in celebration of the composer's 100th birthday. This year's concert will also celebrate the 200th birthday of Cuyahoga County. The evening will conclude with Tchaikovsky's "1812" overture, followed by a fireworks display. This event will be held at The Historical Renaissance Hotel on Public Square. This is the Host Hotel for the Touch A Quarter Century Square Dance Convention.Kris Jensen started calling contras in 2004, and has called many dances in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Las Cruces and even Corvallis, Oregon, since then. She has become a popular caller in New Mexico and is known for smooth dances, concise instruction, and an occasional old-time square. She's called a couple of gender-role-free dances for the local contra dance series and for the Wilde Bunch's 25th anniversary. Kris is looking forward to sharing the fun of modern urban contras with her friends in the modern western square dance world. Rhubarb Pie is a collection of musicians with a strong sense of fun. Formed in 1990, the band combines the usual piano, guitar, fiddle and hammered dulcimer with the not-so-usual bodhran, harmonica and even jug. Two-Steppin On The Square - Friday July 4, 2008 9:00 pm - 2:00 amThe Rainbow Wranglers are proud to present "Two-Steppin' On The Square", an official "Touch A Quarter Century" event celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the IAGSDC. "Two-Steppin' On The Square" is Friday, July 4th from 10:00 pm to 2:00 am at The Historical Renaissance Hotel on Public Square in their Grand Ballroom. This is the Host Hotel for the Touch A Quarter Century Square Dance Convention. Come join us before or after the fireworks.All registered Square Dancers for the Touch A Quarter Century Square Dance weekend wearing their Convention Pins will be admitted free to the Country Western Dance. Activities taking place throughout the evening include, Meet & Greet, Dance Reviews, Rainbow Wranglers famous "Hat Dance", live music by the Curtis Brothers Band, DJ Music and Square Dancing between band sets. Opening Ceremonies begin at 9:00 AM on the patio deck of Cyrus Waterfront Restaurant and Patio, 2000 Sycamore Street. Races will be held from 10:30 AM to 8:00 PM. There is no admission fee for spectators and ample parking is available.The Festival will also promote the people and unique cultures of Cleveland's Asian community. Join us for thrilling races, team spirit and fun on the banks of the majestic Cuyahoga River in Cleveland's Historic Flats. The races will be an exciting and exhilarating event!
