Ett McAtee

Affectionately known as "Just Ett, Hon!" to many who know her, and as "Ettila the Hon!" to her new Plus, Advanced and Challenge graduates, Ett McAtee is proud to be a part of the IAGSDC as both a caller and dancer.

Ett started square dancing on January 13, 1987 with the Chesapeake Squares of Baltimore and first picked up the microphone to call in the summer of 1989. She received the 10-year medallion in 1996, and the 20-year medallion in 2006. In 2004, Ett was honored to receive the coveted Golden Boot award, given by a member of the IAGSDC to honor time and commitment to the gay square dancing community.

Versatility seems to be Ett’s middle name… she calls Mainstream through C4, and regularly calls for the Chesapeake and DC Lambda Squares (Mainstream thru A2), and has her own MACA area clubs, Ettseteras (C1), the Offsets (C2) and Fifth Wheelers (C3A/C3B-Linda Kendall, co-caller). Her first gig at a big convention came at the IAGSDC (Int’l. Assoc. Gay Square Dance Clubs) convention in her own almost-home town of DC, at Stars and Squares Forever (Washington, DC 1994) and was thrilled to be on staff at Anchors Aweigh with a Half Sashay (San Diego,2003) and Remake the Heatwave (2004). Ett is very happy to be part of the calling staff for the 25th anniversary convention in Cleveland Ohio in 2008. Her international gigs have included calling dates in Canada, Sweden and Germany.  Ett calls various weekends around the country every year, and is a member of Washington DC's association of callers (NCASDLA), as well as of the Gay Caller’s Association (GCA) and Callerlab, the international "club" of callers.

Ett's love of square dancing shows from either side of the microphone, as anyone who dances with and to her well knows.  She was honored to receive the Golden Boot Award in 2004… a lifetime achievement award given to dancers and callers alike who contribute to the square dance community in many ways throughout their lives.  The idea of sharing a common language between dancers and callers appeals to Ett, especially on the international scene.  When Ett says, "Square up!" she means it! Parlez vous square dance??
